After the Andes, we flew to Iquitos, the largest city without a road connection. The city is located in the Amazon jungle, at the Amazon River. It has 440 000 inhabitants and can only be reached by plane or boat. It got its wealth in the end of the 19th century from rubber, today it the main income comes from the oil business. We stayed at Muyuna Lodge, 140 km upstream from Iquitos and made trips on foot and by boat in the rain forest.
From Iquitos we went to Máncora, a seaside resort on the west coast of Peru. From there we continued by bus to Cuenca and Quito, Ecuador's capital.
